We are proud to announce that Harper has been recognized as an Honorable Mention in the 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Cloud-Native Application Platforms.

This is a major milestone for Harper and an important moment for the category we have spent years advancing.

Gartner writes:

“Cloud-native application platforms are no longer just environments for running applications from native code. They are evolving into opinionated, integrated platforms that combine infrastructure abstraction with standardized runtimes, curated configurations, governance guardrails, and built-in operational controls.”

We see that evolution reflected in the architecture Harper has been building from the start.

Many cloud platforms make the infrastructure underneath an application easier to manage, while the application still depends on separate application servers, databases, caches, message brokers, and replication systems.

Harper changes that by bringing these core capabilities into a unified runtime.

Harper’s open-source technology brings database, caching, application logic, and messaging together in a single runtime that can be distributed across nodes and regions. Harper Fabric, the managed service for deploying Harper applications, manages multi-region replication, routing, and failover.

The runtime is no longer merely where the application executes. With Harper, it becomes the application’s backend architecture, reducing the complexity and latency introduced by fragmented stacks.

This can eliminate unnecessary network hops between code and data and reduce the number of systems teams must integrate, secure, and operate.

It also creates a powerful foundation for AI agents and modern applications that depend on immediate access to data, state, memory, events, and tools. With Harper, those capabilities can operate in the same distributed runtime as the logic that uses them.

In our view, this represents an important direction for cloud-native application platforms: not simply providing a better environment for running a fragmented application stack, but offering a more integrated way to build the stack itself.

Organizations including Verizon, Ford, Macy’s, Lufthansa, and Ubisoft already trust Harper to support important applications and digital experiences.
